My Story

Hey everybody!

My name is Georgie, I'm 25 and I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when I was 1 year old. So basically I've had it my whole life.

I consider that a blessing in disguise as I only know life with diabetes which makes it easier to manage.

The day to day with diabetes involves finger pricking for blood sugar testing, having needles or using an insulin pump to control your blood sugar levels.

It has it highs and lows (literally).

JDRF is doing great work in research to help find a cure for Type 1 Diabetes, something I'm sure will happen in my lifetime...

So help make it happen by throwing a bit of spare change JDRF's way.

I'll make sure to run as fast as I possibly can!

Thanks everyone, really appreciate your support.

Today, there will be 6 Australians newly diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. At the moment, this means a lifetime of insulin injections or infusion to stay alive, plus regular painful finger pricks and careful blood glucose management. The disease can strike anyone at any time, and currently affects more than 120,000 Australians.

JDRF is the leading global organisation funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. Our mission is to accelerate life-changing breakthroughs to cure, prevent and treat T1D and its complications.

We invite you to join Team Cure Diabetes to help raise money for T1D research and make a difference to the 2.4 million Australians who have a close friend or family member with type 1 diabetes, so please make your run count and click ‘Join Team’.
