Last year, I watched my best mate - my father endure his toughest battle yet. Dad suffered a blood clot which travelled through the arteries to and within to his brain causing a stroke. This impacted his mobility, speech, memory, facial appearance and overall lifestyle. A year on, he has made improvements, but the reality remains that his life has been impacted indefinitely. Somehow, I have always been the one present in the occasion of Dads illnesses; from a heart attack to a stroke. These overwhelming situations are incredibly testing. I felt at large immensely grateful that in both instances I was able to recognise the warning signs. It is imperative to act quickly. In this case, time loss was brain loss. Moving forward, I could not help but question if anyone else was faced with a similar situation – Would they know what to do? Would they be aware of the warning signs? I have made it my duty to ensure that individuals are made aware of the signs, symptoms and effect. Afterall, you can help lessen the effect.
With this being said, I will participate in the City2Surf this year, representing ‘The Stroke Foundation’. I am not normally vocal about my Dad’s health and what he has been through, but this is something I feel quite passionately about. Any donation would be greatly appreciated. If not, please visit https://strokefoundation.org.au/About-us to read an overview of all of the initiatives that the Stroke Foundation facilitates as the voice of stroke in Australia.
Hope to make you proud pops!
