2017 is the year I finally took a stand and sought treatment for my mental health. After going almost 3 years undiagnosed with various mental illnesses including depression, anxiety and an eating disorder, one person's persistence in asking questions turned my whole life around.
Support, love and care are the key factors in ensuring someone feels brave enough to reach out and seek help. I cannot explain the feeling of relief when I told someone what was happening. Not only did it mean I was admitting to myself that I needed help, but it also meant I had someone else to hold me accountable for fighting for what I truly wanted.
I'm participating in the 2018 City2Surf to fundraise money for the Black Dog Institute, whose message and works mean the world to me. It is so important that the awareness of mental health continues to grow and that organisations involved in the rehabilitation & prevention process receive the support they need. The more people that know about Black Dog Institute, the greater their impact.
So even if it seems someone is living their happiest life, never stop asking how they are doing, or if they need to talk. Your persistence could change the course of someone's life.
If you can, please donate to this amazing cause, because no matter how great or small, you will still be making a difference.
Also spread the word by sharing my page with your friends and family. You never know who you could be supporting by doing so. Thank you in advance for your generosity, it means a lot!
